DIY Knit Pants

Outfit Deets: Top Here / Bottoms made by me tutorial below / Shoes Here / Purse similar Here

Materials:
2 yards of Ponte Roma Knit

Coordinating thread
Coordinating invisible zipper 7-9"
Scissors
Sewing machine

Instructions:

1. Find a similar pair of knit tights in your closet.  Fold them so that the front side is facing out.  Place on fabric and measure 1" all the way around your pants.  Pick up your knit pants and fold them with the back side facing out, do the same thing.  Cut out both traced pieces.  Take your waist measurement.  Subtract 2" from that measurement.  On your fabric, on the fold draw that measurement x 6".  Cut out.

2. You should have two pair of front and back pant legs (a total of four)

3. On the back pieces of your pants, create a dart to provide a better fit.

4. Place one back piece on top of one front piece (RST). You should have two pant legs. Sew a basting stitch along the outer leg. Sew a regular seam (5/8 seam allowance) in the inner seam.  Try on pants to ensure they fit.  If not, sew a little more along the outer leg.

5. Turn one pant leg right side out and place it inside the other pant, which should be right side in.  Right should be together.  Match the inner seams together.  You should have a big "U" at the top of your pants.  Sew around the "U" using a 5/8" seam allowance.

6. The front and back of your pants should look like the corresponding pic below.

7.  Take your waistband piece and fold it in half (with right side facing out). Pin it to the top of your pants and pin all the way around leaving the side  open.  (You may have to rip open the basting stitch of the outer leg just a little).  Attach the waistband to your pants using a 5/8" seam allowance. Sew a small basting stitch down the top of the waistband and top of outer pants.  Now grab your invisible zipper, and pin it face down on the basting stitch the sew in place.  After you've sewn your zipper in place, do a reg stitch from the bottom of each outer leg to bottom of the zipper.

8. Hem the bottom of your pants and you are done!
