DIY Open Back Floral Top

Materials Needed:
1 Yard of cotton blend fabric
Coordinating thread
Hook and Eye
Scissors
Sewing Machine
Fabric chalk or pen
Instructions:

Step One:  Find a loose fitting shirt (preferably with similar material as your purchased fabric). Open up your fabric (right side down).  Lay your shirt (with the front facing up) on your fabric.  Trace around your shirt adding 1.5".  Cut your traced pattern out.

Step Two:  Fold your shirt in half, repeat step one only around the neck line, shoulder, arm and outer side. ***Make sure you trace your half piece with your fabric completely open (right side down) and on either the left or right side of the fabric piece. DO NOT trace in the middle of the fabric piece*** To create the rounded inside seam, connect the neck line and outer line by drawing a round line.  To ensure that you have the same size piece for both sides, fold your fabric (with RST) and cut out your traced half piece.  You should have two half pieces.  Cut out sleeve pieces.  (I used a sleeve pattern from one of my McCalls' pattern).  You can opt to not have sleeves.

Step Three: Place both half pieces on top of your front piece with RST and sew along the shoulder and outer sides using a 5/8" seam allowance.  Hem your outer rounded pieces.

Step Four: Create your neckline. You can either create a facing (which is what I did). Tutorial Here or simply just fold down and sew.

Step Five:  All that's left to do are to hem the sleeves and the bottom of your front piece and hand sew on your hook and eye and you're done!!!
